Hey guys! It’s Wednesday,
it’s beautiful outsive, I’ve got That Summer Feeling. I heard a rumor that everything is cancelled today so that we can all just enjoy the weather, can anyone verify that? Actually, that’s what I get for writing this last night and then posting it in the morning, it’s a little grey and gloomy out this morning :( Hopefully it picks up. Anyway:
At noon, in Woodruff Park (91 Peachtree Street), there’s a Daffodil Celebration, which is when the 20,000 daffodils planted in Woodruff a few months ago as part of the Daffodil Project are supposed to bloom. To be honest I don’t really understand what this is other than a bunch of people gathering in the park to look at the flowers, but each of the flowers represents one child who died during the Holocaust, and there are 1.5 million daffodils planted in cities over the world.
If you’re feeling hungry, Rí Rá Irish Pub (1080 Peachtree St) is doing A Pint & A Pound, $10 gets you a pint of Guinness/Harp/Smithwicks/Magners and a whole pound of wings. It sounds like a good deal to me. How many wings are in a pound? Starts at 4pm to close.
At 7pm The High Museum has Conversations with Contemporary Artists featuring ceramicist Molly Hatch this month, who’s latest installation was recently set up in The High.
Under the Couch (350 Ferst Drive) has Poetry Without Borders at 7pm, for anyone to read their poetry to an audience, and then Open Mic Night at 8pm for all your other talents.
Down at The Goat Farm (1200 Foster St), Write Club 33 is happening, the theme this month is “Dames,” to celebrate Women’s History Month. Doors at 8, $10 cover. If you can’t make it, check out the Write Club Atlanta podcast!
More Women’s History Month celebrating going on at Mint Gallery (636 N. Highland Ave) with Vida Voce, readings and performances about women, 7pm, no cover.
There are not many shows going on today, not sure why there are so few. International go-to-bed-early day, maybe?
(If you’re on mobile, turn your phone to landscape and the table sucks less, I’m working on a better solution for this!)
|The Locksmyth||The Earl||$5, 21+||9pm||The Locksmyth are a bizarre jazzy blues band, kind of what I’d imagine street jazz sounds like in the fifth dimension. Facebook | Bandcamp|
|Air Wolves||529||Free, 21+||9pm||This is Air Wolves CD release party, they’re good old fashioned punky garage rock. Hip to Death is opening, and last time I saw them they were full of energy and finished the set by knocking over an amp and spinning around on the floor. Facebook|
|Skymatic||Drunken Unicorn||$7, 21+||9pm||Skymatic are releasing their EP at this show. They’re dubstep-ish, but they perform with a live violinist, at least in the video I watched, which was a pretty unique twist on the genre. Facebook Event|
- Dirty Bourbon River Show @ Star Bar, $7, 21+
- The Shadow Boxers @ Eddie’s Attic, $$15
I’m torn between the Mammal Gallery or the 529, I’ll probably go to the Mammal Gallery because it’s easier to get to, but Write Club is always entertaining, and I’m sure Under the Couch will have a good poetry reading! Let me know what you get up to and what turns out to be fun!
Be sure to follow me on Twitter, Tumblr, or Facebook, put me in your RSS reader, or sign up for daily emails, whatever works best for you! As always, remember that the Tumblr will be the most up-to-date version of the list.
